My mom had almost jet black hair and somewhere in my 40s, my boyfriend saw a young pic of my mom and he said "oh! She had dark hair! And I insisted she still had dark hair. He said, "nooooo. Your mom is blond." We argued for a while and then the next time we saw her, I realized: OMFG she DOES have blond hair! And I asked her "when did you color your hair blond??" And she said "well, over the last 30 years. Every gray hair was covered with a lighter shade of brown to ash blond til it was all blond"

THEN I realized both of her sisters (who I would have also insisted had black hair) were also FUCKING BLOND!!

Then my mom finally grew out the blond so gradually until it was silver, it was conpletely seamless.

I felt gaslighted.
