Into the Wild was published in 1996 and spent two years on The New York Times Best Seller List. The book uses a non-linear narrative that documents the travels of Christopher McCandless, a young man from a well-to-do East Coast family who, in 1990, after graduating from Emory University, donated all of the money ($24,000) in his bank account to the humanitarian charity Oxfam, renamed himself “Alexander Supertramp”, and began a journey in the American West.
