Abby Elliott

Abigail Elliott was born on 16th June 1987, in New York City, USA. The impressionist, actress, and comedian rose to public prominence thanks to her time on the comedy sketch series “Saturday Night Live”, a tenure that lasted from 2008 to 2012. Since then, her notable roles include starring in “Odd Mom Out” and “The Bear”.

Abby’s parents are the talent co-ordinator Paula Niedert and the comedian and actor Chris Elliott. Her grandfather, Bob Elliott, was a radio comedian known for being one-half of the beloved comedy duo Bob and Ray, whereas Chris has created and starred in many movies and shows over the years. Despite having industry connections thanks to her family, Abby and her younger sister Bridey – who is an actress, film director, and comedian – have always worked hard to ensure that they get by on their own merits.

Abby and Bridey were raised in Wilton, Connecticut, and attended Immaculate High School. There, Abby discovered her love for acting when she began appearing in school plays and musicals. After matriculating from the high school in 2005, she enrolled in New York City’s Marymount Manhattan College; however, life took her in an unexpected direction as she dropped out during her first semester.

Career

After taking comedy classes at The Groundlings and training and performing at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre (UCBT), Abby made her TV debut in the pilots for “Chrissy: Plain & Simple” and “You’ve Reached the Elliotts”, two 2006 sitcoms starring her father. During her time at UCBT, Abby would frequently perform with The Midnight Show sketch troupe and even did a few shows with her sister Bridey.

Prior to joining the cast of “SNL” in 2008, Abby did voiceover work on “Minoriteam” and “King of the Hill”. She joined “SNL” midway through season 34 following the departure of Amy Poehler, becoming the third generation of her family to feature on the show and the second to be hired as a cast member. After four years and 81 episodes, the actress left “SNL” prior to its 38th season. During that time, she also did voiceover work for “Ugly Americans”, guest-starred in an episode of “2 Broke Girls”, and in 2011 made her film debut playing Joy in “No Strings Attached”.

Post-“SNL”, Abby played Lara in the teen comedy “Fun Size” and had a recurring role as Jeanette Peterson in “How I Met Your Mother”. Other TV shows she guest-starred in include “Garfunkel & Oates”, “Happy Endings”, and “Inside Amy Schumer”. In 2014, the comedian had three movie roles: playing Vanessa in the romcom “Life Partners”, Taylor in “Teenage Ninja Mutant Turtles”, and Trish in “Sex Ed”.

From 2015 to 2017, the third-generation celebrity had a co-starring role in the Bravo series “Odd Mom Out”. Her character, Brooke Von Weber, was the main character’s sister-in-law and an ultra-wealthy “Momzilla” living in New York’s privileged Upper East Side. The series ran for three seasons and was warmly praised by critics of The Wall Street Journal and other publications.

Also in 2015, Abby joined the cast of the animated Disney series “Star vs. the Forces of Evil”, voicing Janna. The following year, she became a recurring character on the Dreamworks show “Home: Adventures with Tip and Oh”, guest-starred in an episode of “Difficult People”, and played Angela in the Benjamin Cox romcom “Better Off Single”.

The actress has appeared in just two movies in the last five years, playing Julie in the comedy-drama “Clara’s Ghost”, and Tricia in the 2022 remake of “Cheaper by the Dozen”. Nevertheless, she has fared well for herself in television with a leading role in the brief-lived NBC sitcom “Indebted” and the role of Natalie Berzatto in “The Bear”, starring Jeremy Allan White.

Abby began dating Fred Armisen, her “SNL” colleague, in 2010. The relationship ended in September 2011; at the time, Fred – who is 20 years her senior – had recently divorced his second wife, the actress Elisabeth Moss, whom he married in 2009. Elisabeth would later describe their time together as “traumatic”, saying of her ex-husband: “He’s so great at doing impersonations. But the greatest impersonation he does is that of a normal person.”
